Governance and More Information

The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) serves as the development home of Archipelago. METRO's Digital Services Team also provides Archipelago hosting, support, training, and consultancy for institutions who need assistance getting started, customizing, or maintaining their Archipelago repositories.

METRO is one of nine regional library councils serving New York State, originally chartered by New York State Education law over 50 years ago. METRO’s immediate service region is New York City and Westchester County, but the community using and working with Archipelago and METRO's Digital Services reaches across New York, the United States, and around the world.

Detailed information about Archipelago Commons' governance and related policy structures can be found in the IOI's Infrafinder entry for Archipelago.

Support and Hosting with METRO's Digital Services Team

Archipelago Commons is entirely open source. You are encouraged to extend and configure it in any way you like. If you don’t have the bandwidth to do so, METRO's Digital Services Team may be able to help. We offer a variety of hosted options and support services. Our team is also available to provide Archipelago repository consultation services (for a minimum of 10 hours).

Please reach out to our Digital Services Staff, Diego Pino Navarro and Allison Sherrick, at repositorysupport@metro.org if you have any questions.

METRO members in New York City and Westchester County are also eligible to contribute curated collections to the Archipelago-based Digital Culture of Metropolitan New York (DCMNY) collaborative repository. You can find information about becoming a METRO member here, and more information about DCMNY Membership here
